Bioleach reactor

A bioreactor in which metals of value such as copper, zinc, uranium, nickel and cobalt are leached from the associated mineral using microorganisms such as: Thiobacillus ferrooxidans, Leptospirillum ferrooxidans and thermophilic species of Sulfobacillus, Acidianus and Sulfolobus. The above-mentioned microorganisms are prokaryotes which are used to bioleach certain sulfide minerals. The bioleaching process places the metal of interest in the solution phase from which the metal is recovered. The remaining solid residue is discarded.
