Ferric sulfate

A compound with the chemical formula Fe2(SO4)3, also known as iron (III) sulfate. It is a yellow crystalline hygroscopic water-soluble salt that decomposes when heated to a temperature of 480°C.

The hydrated form of this compound Fe2(SO4)3·9H2O, is a deliquescent crystalline salt that occurs in nature as the mineral coquimbite. Ferric sulfate is used as a coagulant for industrial wastes, in pickling baths for aluminium and steel, as a mordant in dyeing and in pigments.
