Life cycle engineering

Life cycle engineering is the process of developing specifications to meet fixed performance, costs and environmental requirements that span the life cycle of a product, system or process. Life cycle engineering embodies material and energy use and waste generation within the following stages:

  • material production, including material acquisition and processing
  • manufacturing and construction: the creation and assembly of parts into products
  • process operation and maintenance
  • decommissioning, material recovery and disposal
