Microbially influenced corrosion

Corrosion caused by the metabolic activity of microbes. Microbes associated with microbial influenced corrosion (MIC) include sulfate reducing, iron oxidising, acid producing, sulfur oxidising and nitrate-reducing microbes. These microbes can cause corrosion of mild steel, stainless steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
