The process of extracting a soluble metal salt from a metal bearing source using brine as a lixiviant at a temperature of 80 – 120 ºC. E.g. Soluble lead halide can be recovered from a halogenated lead source by hot brine leaching in the presence of a sodium chloride solution. The resulting lead halide solution is subjected to further processing to obtain metallic lead. Zinc and other metals can be recovered from a residue by hot brine leaching with a calcium chloride solution.
